Flat Cars

Variations of the flat car included, depressed center, center beam, intermodal cars, all used to transport mixed cargo such as paper, lumber, or construction materials, steel beams, and even train track beams. Flat cars are one of the most efficient, and thereby profitable, modes of transportation on the railroad. Flat car cargo is exposed to the weather, so typically these types of materials are resistant.
