Variations of the flat car included, depressed center, center beam,
intermodal cars, all used to transport mixed cargo such as paper,
lumber, or construction materials, steel beams, and even train track
beams. Flat cars are one of the most efficient, and thereby revenue generating,
modes of transportation on the railroad.
